International Theatre & Literacy Project 2008

ITLP is a non-profit organization that brings theatre artists from the United States to developing countries to conduct community-based playwriting and theatre workshops for secondary school students and teachers.

In 2008 ITLP forged a partnership with the Fine & Performing Arts Department at the University of Dar es Salaam to deepen and expand the ITLP mission in Tanzania. The University agreed to provide Tanzanian theatre artists to work alongside USA theatre artists in the ITLP 2008 Summer program to build local capacity to sustain the program throughout the year and beyond.

Through the generous support of dedicated volunteers and caring donors, the International Theatre and Literacy Project proves that simple drama activities combined with the process of writing and performing a play give students the tools to further their mastery of English and become creative and self-empowered learners.
