Mt. Oberlin is a 8180' peak that is easilt accessible from the Logan Pass Visitor's Center. Edwards does classify the new route as Class 3 with one Class 4 pitch, but the ascent is actually fairly easy for an adult. Taking a child (my 9-yr old daughter, who also swims on a racing team and is extremely fit) should be considered only if the parent is comfortable with heights and is willing to shephard the child through 2 or 3 sections that are really designed for adult legs. Children might need a hand on some 'lift your butt' big upward steps, but on the whole there is little danger on this climb. You either need to know the route beforehand or consult with the park rangers at the visitor's center (highly recommended) to find the beginning of the trail as it is not marked on purpose. Please register at the visitor's center and let them know when you return to prevent them sending out search parties for you. Our Oberlin videos are meant to bring the mountain climbing experience to you, but please do not take hikes like these lightly. Gravity sucks, as they say, and it wants you for dinner. Be advised. Enjoy.
Thanks so much! My wish for you is clear skies! Enjoy!
