3 Monitors (Part 2)

In this video I'm just showing an interesting possible configuration with the X Window System. I have 3 monitors setup on the computer, but 1 of them is configured to run completely independent of the other 2.

When you are moving the mouse cursor from left-most monitor one over right (mid monitor), how does it know to jump the mouse cursor to the mid monitor and NOT the right-most monitor? Is this a configuration you need to do manually?

Yes, it's a configuration in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. In the ServerLayout section, you specify the relative location of the screens.

Google Nexuiz, and go to the #Nexuiz channel on Quakenet - I'm one of the devs for that game, it's based off the Quake game engine (Which means it's cross platform), and can run on Windows, *Nix, and Mac's alike. It's best to build the SVN because you get all the shiny new features, but for now we're on version 2.4.2.

Yeah, the relatively low quality (not trolling, I love using Linux and in fact found today that one of my favorite games "Toribash" has been ported to both Mac and Linux) of Linux games (Super Tux?) is why I am grateful I have a games console (even if it is an Xbox 360).

There are hundreds of games for Linux, but the majority of them are opensource :) - Opensource = Linux

Errm... no. Try wine or cedega. They wont remove the need for windows completely but they are great regardless.

Do you still have this setup now? Is :1 set up as an independent monitor by choice, or just because of limitations? I have a 7600gt in my pci-e slot controlling two monitors, and then I have an old 5200 in one of my PCI slots with another monitor. I use a xinerama-aware openbox to consolidate all three desktops. Openbox sees all three monitors as one large desktop, so when I switch to another virtual desktop, all three monitors actually switch, and not just the two.

hello, could you help a newbie out?

right now (running a pc) i have an ATi x1300 PRO, and i want to get a new video card (x2900HD). i have 2 pci-e slots, and i want to use both with these two cards if possible (non-crossfire ofcourse). if i put 3 or 4 monitors into these, what issues will i run into? will i be able to just run all 4 as one large desktop? or do i need two identical cards?
