A short video on reverse electroplating gold plated scrap using a sulphuric electrolytic cell. As always wear proper saftey equipment when performing these experiments and never breathe in any fumes created from these processes. Please read comment section to answer any questions you may have. If you have any new questions I will glady answer them.

  • would this work with chloroauric acid?

  • @LongBean420 It wouldn't. You would probably end up dissolving all metals including the electrodes if you used chloroauric acid.

  • whats the point of this?

  • @mcrfuse To recover gold from gold plated objects.

  • @metalicmario Ya we know that but is the pay off or finished product worth any value?

  • @782Matty Of course. Gold is very valuable.

  • @ArtypNk Do you have any figures? Exactly how much is 2 million times more? What is this lot's true value? How much gold is on cell phones or microchips? How much reverse electroplating have you done. How much cell phone and microchip processing have you done? What is the cost of processing plated jewelry vs cell phones and microchips? What if I wanted to harvest this gold to make jewelry? Then what is it's worth?

  • can you add to the description what concentration of H2SO4 and the electrodes and voltage and amperes please

  • So when I went to a low end jeweler to get my necklace polished and he told me it wasn't really gold, this is what he did behind that door, he stole my gold!?

  • Went to lasersteve's website listed on the vid end...was curious about the electrolyte, anode and cathode he used to do this reverse plate...I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. The anode looks like copper, but is he just direct plating gold onto the cathode? Was considering this for a means to remove plate for further refining, but a soft-metal cathode won't withstand an induction furnace.
