I remember jumping off here when I was at Duluth East. I can also remember a friend of mine Mark Chase who died jumping off here. For those of you who do jump, be careful.
Tower is only about 14 ft high. My buddy and I in the early 80's built a little ramp on the end on jumped our bikes off. High pines is no big deal. Most people get nervous and run too fast off it and fly way out. It's deepest near the falls. To the left of the falls is the most challenging jump. We called it "suicide run". At least 8-10 ft of rocks to clear. I did it once, but never again after another of my buds didn't make it. Nothing broke, but he was all tore up.
I remember seeing someone jump from "the roots" next to the "high pines" and he almost made it all the way but his leg hit the very last possible rock he could hit. You could even hear his leg hit but surprisingly he didnt break it, he could even walk.
My neighbor broke his neck jumping off back in the early 70's. He was lucky he didn't die or become paralyzed.....he knew he was hurt lying on the bottom and seeing the sun above he swam up to the surface using the sun. Never did any of us jump again...lol
Years ago when I was young I remember seeing a guy climb up that pine tree and jump off...crazy shit I tell ya. And yeah those rocks are a bit scary--imagine not jumping far enough out--ouch.

My oldest brother used to Swan Dive off the "Tower" (as they called it) in the 50's and my other one (not so brave) jumped off "the Bell"
