@NotPotter It wasn't really Panasonic's fault, it was 3DO's. As for all consoles, 3DO charged a fee for publishers to produce games for the system. However, as 3DO didn't make the machine but instead licensed it to other manufacturers there was a bit of a problem. 3DO took all of the software licensing fee, while the hardware manufacturers got none. Therefore the hardware had to be sold at a profit as the manufacturers had no other way to make money and pay for advertising (3DO didn't pay).

I like how the "multiplayer" is a actually a "player with lots of formats" :)

Wow, that was an interesting choice to go with for a pitchman. Maybe that was par for the course back than but talk about a hard approach.

I KNEW I recognized that crazy robot at the beginning of the presentation! That guy is an actor. His name is J. Paul Boehmer. He's been in a few Star Trek episodes. Haha!

It sounded like the spokeman was saying "Full blown monkeymedia technology."

@shaurz - Agreed. He reminded me of Geoffrey Chaucer in A Knight's Tale...only really scary.

@philiptwood The price was Panasonic's fault. They only knew how to sell tvs and hi-fi equipment, not consoles. They figured a high price point would create greater perceived value. Wrongly.
That shouty guy is hilarious... and scary.

Amazing. They were basically charging $700 for rough polygons, some scaling sprites, and FMV. I still remember when these were marked down to about $200-$250 just before the Playstation launched.
