The Birqash camel market outside Cairo, Egypt. Camel herders travel from various parts of Egypt, Sudan and Somalia to sell their livestock here. The majority of the camels are used for food. They can feed a large family for up to a month, and cost from one thousand to five thousand Egyptian pounds (about $200 - $1000).

  • why do they have one foot tied up?

  • i think some herders do that to keep them from running around or escaping the market.

  • @Narman2525 i think si aanay u baxsan and thats Egyptian style.

  • I got to feed camels once look up "Feeding Camels! 4/21/10" it was funny/random because they were in a kmart parking lot.

  • @o0somic0o maybe it was sports day and they entered the three legged race

  • they EAT camels!? I thought that goats and sheep is what they ate.

  • Been there. You'd be surprised just how fast a camel can move with one leg tied up. I saw no abuse while I was there (2001\2) but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. After all, these are the people whose police regularly put out poison for stray dogs and cats.
