I really like hearing this gentleman speak. He is intelligent and sincere, and appears to have a very clear understanding of the world economic situation. So few are providing us with the true story. It is good that we have people like this. Be nice to see people like this in government service.

people will drop like flies from starvation.

We'll keep our head under the sand IMMEDIATELY after we can no longer afford oil. Then we'll pull it out and run around a bit because its the only thing we know how to do.
Seriously though, thats how it is. If we have any resources left, we'll use it to bomb our enemies resources.

Man, I like your perpective and the way you think.
We'll always have big economic issues in the monetary system, like corruption, consertation, greed, technological unemployment, etc... We can change that if we all wanted, all that's need is a more humanistic approach and eradicate money.
Check out their ideas, simple brilliant!!

Great analysis. Based on what I've read, which seems sensible, the stock markets (and economy in general) were pricing in the expected increase in oil production back prior to 2 years ago, when things were still good. As you say, since an increase in oil production goes hand in hand with economic growth, the stagnation in oil production over the past couple of years led to a catastrophe for the global economy. With oil production now going into decline, the constant growth economy is toast.

This depression will last from 2008 - 2021 or 2022.
People do make Millions of dollars during depressions.
You just have to find the right niche...

Saying "we're screwed" is not helpful. Saying "we're screwed and this is what you can do to make it through this difficult time" is.
We're screwed, and what you can do is spend the next year liquidating any investments you have and prepare for the crash between 2010 and about 2012. Once people start jumping out of buildings on Wall Street again ... buy.
From there, it's time to encourage the 20-somethings to research alternative energies. They're going to pull us all through.

What ended the last depression?
The 1929 stock market crash and the "Great Depression" that followed was really only ended by the Second World War.... Not sure how the 20-somethings fit in here or could it be cannon fodder?
