UPDATE: sadly, i believe this only works for windows xp....because vista and 7 handles fullscreen directx a bit differently...
currently using zd recorder for windows 7.
are you sick of fraps lag? are you tired of absolutely ridiculous file sizes? then hypercam might be for you! heres how you can get fraps quality without the lag and the huge file sizes!
this video looked much better before the upload.
In a nutshell:
1. (0:15) download k-lite codec pack mega version
2. (0:55) install it, just use the default settings. if you want, include X264, as its useful for rendering in sony vegas.
3. (1:55) open up hypercam, and configure with the following settings:
- start x and y = 0
- width and height = your resolution
example: i play at 1280x720. therefore, my width is 1280, and my height is 720.
- 30 fps for recording and playback
- capture cursor every frame (although it doesnt matter for CA)
- keyframe every 100 frames
- 100% compression quality
4. (2:22) configure divx with the following:
- 1080HD format
- 1-pass
- 15000 kbps (for 1280x720 resolution)
- fastest encoding speed
- enable multithreading
5. (2:48) make sure sound is enabled; 16-bit, 44100. in your windows sound settings, "stereo mix" must be checked.
6. (3:15) 8x anti-aliasing in your combat arms settings must be used. well actually, ive never tried 2-6x, but you can try those if you want.
with my computer, i dont even feel hypercam running with these settings, except for the first few seconds.
regarding the bitrate, i use 15000kbps for 1280x720, but if you find that you lose too much performance, you may throttle it down to 8000kbps. youtube destroys the quality when you upload it anyways. however, i wouldnt go below 8000 at 1280x720.
if you find that your computer is too freaking beast, you might think about upping the divx encoding speed from "fastest" to "high performance". well, DONT. not only does it produce negligible results at a performance loss, it also messes up the audio/vidio sync. of course, it varies from computer to computer, but i really wouldnt bother when you dont get better video quality.
for people who play at different resolutions:
1280x720 = 921600 pixels : 15000kbps
by proportion:
1440x900 = 1296000 pixels : approx. 21000kbps
etc. etc.
this method probably isnt 100% accurate, but its a good estimate.
my specs:
intel c2d e5200 @ 3.14ghz
2gb corsair xms2 ram
ati hd3870
ancient western digital 80gb hard drive
PS: im not vertex, im lagger.
original file size: 1gb
original resolution: 1440x900
rendering time (x264): 50min
Question: How can you record sound with vista, it won't let me.

@ErikT45CA
depends if you have the full version. the free version cant do encoding, it can only read videos.
