When Stephen says "Christian scholars object," he's being a bit too kind to the researchers. Essentially, the researchers are starting from the (eminently reasonable) idea that much of Christianity comes from earlier ideas, and point to Mithraism, about which little is known, as one possibility based on a few known similarities, and interpolate based on that.
