British Airways Flight 38 (Speedbird 38) Boeing 777-236ER aircraft G-YMMM was a scheduled flight from Beijing Capital International Airport which crash landed just short of the runway at its destination, Heathrow Airport, London, on 17 January 2008. There were no fatalities, but 47 people sustained injuries. The cause was determined to be ice crystals in the fuel clogging the fuel-oil heat exchanger (FOHE) of each engine. This is the original Air Traffic Control Recording!

  • @lolvks Actually, Speedbird 95 was the BA callsign used in the simulator for mayday practice.

  • what would be the likely outcome of if both engines failed on a aircraft as the wheel lifted of the gorund simulatanouesly. The aircraft would not have enough height or speed or energy to make a big turn for the runway. WOuld it be a case of it going straight down. THis would be the worst case scenario

  • @Bruchpilot1995 Probably got the callsign wrong, stress from the emergency I guess

  • @Bananayoghurt1000 Because aircraft radio is so different and each aircraft's sounds different.

  • What does the pilot mean with 9 5, 9 5?

  • @Bananayoghurt1000 cause it is very high freq!

  • @galop1974 I know i bought it :) Now i am waiting to arrive!

  • @Dundullla Hello. Just Reading Cpt. Peter Burkill Book called 30 seconds to Impact. He explains in the book that the 95-95 is him making a mistake in the call signs cause BA95 was his next schedualed flight and in the presure of the moment he got the call sign wrong. The book is brilliant and I highly recommend it. Get your self a xmas pressie!!

  • What is 95-95 his call is BA38 ??

  • @mruppity64 i belive speedbird 95 is also used for traing in emergancys
