In fact Devia does not need America, she's an extreme success in Europe and has a very solid carreer. And as the way the opera in US in going, she shouldn't come anyway or she'd be infected by the terrible singers that Met Opera has in it cast nowadays.

that is correct! Rossini did that himself!

The Cabaletta sounds very much like the one used by Devia in her Tancredi performances. Sometimes even with slight chnges one can hear it. Donizetti and Bellini also did this, mining unsucessful operas for melodies, especially in Donizetti's case from having to write 4 or 5 operas a year. I don't mind it, but it always makes me smile to hear little echos from other operas- Ernesto

Tancredi? Il viaggio a Reims perhaps?

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the cabaletta here lifted direct from Tancredi? Rossini was notorious for his self borrowings, but perhaps by the time Le Comte Ory came out French audiences didn't know about such things andnTancredi is a much older opera. Diva is glorious no matter what- Thanks for posting!

Wonderful. Thanks for posting this video with my favorite soprano.

Superb! This is Devia at her best. I've always had mixed feelings with Devia's interpretations, but this is undeniably great singing. Her voice sounds very creamy and smooth, without any heaviness. I must add that her near-perfect phrasing and legato are as amazing as her rapid-fire coloratura and great high notes. Her way with the vocal scales fit Rossini perfectly, unlike other composers. Her interpretive elegance is also very pleasant. ;-)

Hmm. at 0:30.. it looks like someone didn't show up for rehearsal!
That is terrific. Thank God for you tube; Devia does not have nearly enough exposure in the United States. She is magnificent.
