Kim Cattrall speaks out against the cuts to arts funding in BC

Kim Cattrall spoke out against the recent cuts to arts funding in BC during her acceptance speech at the Canadian Walk of Fame ceremony on September 13, 2009, in Toronto. Cattrall is from BC originally, and the whole BC arts community thanks her for this gesture. You too can tell Premier Gordon Campbell what you think of his slashing of the arts!

@williamliam13 No, actually, that's incorrect. BC has always been either the lowest or closest to the lowest in terms of arts funding in Canada. So much for an identity for this province.

The cuts amount to 91% cut by 2011, not 80%. No other sector was cut that way - education, libraries etc. all had gruesome cuts, but all under 30%. Correction: williamliam13, BEFORE these cuts, BC was always at the very bottom of the heap in Canada, as far as arts funding goes. And that's when arts funding was at $47 million annually. In two years it will be down to $2.6 million. We'll see massive brain drain as a result, and other economic and social effects. Kim, thank you for this.

I totally agree that the fact that BC's funding to the arts ill be cut - is it 80%??

But before these cuts I think that BC was one of the better province's in funding the arts.

This is a barbaric government. We are, obviously, an unsophisticated province. Certainly, the worst in Canada as far as arts funding goes. Shame.
