During a press briefing, Scientists discussed new findings by NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer, or IBEX spacecraft which are helping fill holes in our knowledge about the matter found between the stars in our Milky Way galaxy. IBEX, whose primary focus has been the interaction between our solar system and what lies beyond, has directly sampled multiple heavy elements within this interstellar medium, the same materials of which stars, planets -- even people, are made.

Incredible! We're stardust looking back at how we were formed, where we've been and where we're going, cosmologically. If we can do that, why can't there be other entities out there either doing the same thing or having already grasped far more than we have? Thank you IBEX Team and NASA!

I often wonder, what will be the practical applications that this information and these tools? How will it be used by garage inventors, manufacturers, conceptual engineers, and draftsmen for the benefit of man?

They note that the "heliosphere" is dominated by magnetic fields, again, no surprise if you understand the "heliosphere" is a plasma double layer. It's also to be expected that the electrical environments divided by the double layer are vastly different, another discovery of IBEX, and the excluded environments have virtually no interactions except across the double layer where all the voltage difference is expressed.

The IBEX researchers wouldn't be so mystified by the discovery of this "ribbon" at the "heliosphere" if they understood the "heliosphere" is known as a plasma double layer to plasma physicists, and plasma double layers are notorious for emitting synchrotron radiation, which is what the IBEX researchers have been detecting, not "energetic neutral atoms". Ions are readily accelerated to "relativistic" speeds across plasma double layers, we use "particle accelerators", big electromagnets.
