My thoughts on the latest installment in the Gamera franchise, a long-running kaiju series from Japan. Is this monster mash worth attending or does the kid-friendly reboot of Gamera ruin the experience? Watch my review and find out!

NOTE: For those who are following my Gamera review series, I will be re-reviewing this movie after I complete my viewing of all of the previous films. As it stands right now, this is from an uneducated perspective on the series. However, I still stand by most of the comments I made here. Enjoy.

Opening Song: "What Planet is This?" by Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts
* Note that I do not own this song and am merely using it for entertainment purposes. I claim no ownership over it. If you would like the video taken down, just let me know. So please...don't sue me. =)

  • Gamera looks like a bloody fluffy toy, Zedus actually looks like a monster.

  • @balthier74 Gamera does look cutesy, yes, but I thought it worked with the tone. As for Zedus, he looks good but...I just can't shake the thought that he seems pretty generic, especially when lined up next to the rest of Gamera's rogues gallery.

  • I was actually pretty disappointed about Gamera's roar. As in, it's not his roar! They just used some public-domain dragon roar, the American Godzilla didn't even do that!

  • @AgaiLazen Its true. After re-watching this one after a full series marathon, them not using the Gamera roar is a HUGE disappointment.

  • I can't believe this is actually a kids movie, Zedus ate people!! :P

  • @NerfFOX227 XD Re-watching the movie, YES! I was kind of surprised as I didn't really notice this the first time. However, looking back, most of the great children's movie do have some level of violence and trauma that we wouldn't associate with children's movies nowadays so...I guess just goes to show...=)

  • i am a big fan of godzilla and iam not use to gaint monsters being protecters of kids and well i still like this movie but not as much as the godzilla series

  • I remember watching this movie and finding it to be pretty good. It's a kid's movie, but not obnoxiously so. It's something just about anybody can get behind. It doesn't fall into the trap of unrealistically bratty and obnoxious behavior that movies like Godzilla's Revenge or (from what I understand) many of the 60s gamera flicks display. Hell, most kid movies in general are outright ridiculous. The child-protagonist angle in this movie, however, is very well done.

  • are you out of your freaken mind !!!! this version of of gamera is a terrible version of the monster. i understand your saying how you aren't a real gamera fan, but come on now ! toho bought and then destroyed the only threat to godzilla's fan fame. i like countless people around the world are zilla fans for life. but, to have toho crush the hew gamera movie idea and produce this giant teenage mutant ninja turtle !!!!

  • the original gamera was the best

  • @darthpetro12 This is where I throw myself on the ground and have a tantrum because I would have loved to have seen an animated Gamera cartoon. Darn people for not flocking in droves to see this movie!

I actually enjoyed this movie very much and my daughter and her friends LOVED it. So it accomplished what it set out for: to be a delightful kids film that the parents could enjoy, too.
