Cane Hill Pauper Lunatic Asylum sadly closed down in 1991 after many years of psychiatry since it opened in 1882. BirminghamIU are proud to announce evidential photographs from this amazing and historic location. Cane Hill was mainly demolished in during 2008.

  • What are the music tracks used ?

  • @MrMAHBOI1 obviously he needed 24 hour care but the very reason Thatcher closed them down apparently apart from cost was the standard of care was dreadful not to mention the abuse and horrendous medical practices like insulin, over use of ECT and the dreaded Lobotomy. I just think if I was a multi millionaire I would have placed Terry in a private institution as Charlie Chaplin did in the early 1900s with his mother who was also in Cane Hill. Respect

  • @mashamorgan no, it was his family, and Terry really wouldn't be safe outside of the asylum, so it was the best decision.

  • Awsome footage! Too bad it is tore down..I say they should keep them up ;)

  • I always wondered whether Bowies brother Terry haunts Cane Hill, apparently he hated it there and eventually committed suicide by throwing himself under a train. How Bowie could leave is own flesh and blood in such a place is beyond me !

  • Great job - thanks for posting. Such a shame they demolished this place

  • Awesome video I live about 5mins from this place and no, im not a mental patient!

  • Great video loving it! :)

  • love this place - the wards and the laundry... cool, yet sad
