Texas coach Augie Garrido talks about Austin Woods' 13-inning, 169-pitch performance in the Longhorns' epic 25-inning win over Boston College three weeks ago in the Austin Regional.
@Hookemdude74 Comparing Austin Wood to Nolan Ryan just shows how far you're reaching. He's playing AA (24 innings in 3 seasons LOL! 4.15 ERA ), but without the deadarm syndrome he battled all of last season, he would have been in the majors right now; he was pretty good. And yeah, it was a memorable game to throw 169 (after having thrown 30 the night before). And I know he didn't want to come out; he said he was pitching on adrenaline alone which right there shows that he was ruining his arm.
@goten1214 Really? I was under the impression he was playing AA ball right now. Guys used to throw 150+ pitches all the time. Ever heard of a guy named Nolan Ryan? No one who has ever played any sport much less baseball would ever want to come out in that situation, if they were a true competitor. If his career ends short it will be just as much if not more from throwing breaking balls at a young age than 169 pitches in the most memorable game of his life.
