Heard the Michigan Band playing from half a mile away, went to Elbel Field outdoor practice area and shot this video. Pure accident: got nearly perfect
rendition of The Victors.

  • Thanks ikarooz for adding your personal experience with the Michigan Band. I know of only one other guy who "played" (actually, work like hell would be a better term) in a marching band - for MSU. He filled me on on the difficulties.

Just glad that my Canon point-and-shoot has such a great microphone. Made a DVD of this and sent to my daughter (Class of '98) in CA. She said she cried watching & listening to it. We are MICHIGAN! GO BLUE!

  • I love their low brass section, 24 sousaphones. I want to be one of them.

  • Very nice.

  • I spent many hours marching on Elbel, back in the 70's. That entry was about 3/4 speed. Nothing harder than practicing on asphalt. I loved how the passers marveled at our rehearsals. Horns honk were regular fare. Great capture of what a lot of people never see. Thanks for sharing. SOUNDS GREAT! GO BLUE!
