A few years ago, 2006, the Canadian War Memorial, in Ottawa, was unprotected and subject to ignorant abuse. Gradually there have been improvements. There are now Sentries ( 2007), Interpreters ( 2009) and this summer information panels have been added to the site. They are both informative and emotional. On the video a couple can be seen looking through a laminated "scrap" book . This is about a Canadian who went to war and died. The book has a copy of the telegram to his parents telling them of his death in action. It also has vignets from his life. His mother became a strong advocate of the Silver Cross Mothers. This panel is called a Soldier's Story and highlights the human aspect that goes beyond the figures. This video is a CTV Ottawa news piece and I was interviewed ( Dr Michael Pilon)
