[Aaron] We're here with Jeff Hayzlett at OMS Long Beach. Jeff, why don't you do a quick self intro and tell everybody what you talked about today.
[Jeff] Well, I'm known as a celebrity CMO and former CMO of Kodak and I'm out promoting my book "The Mirror Test." We were here talking to people about their 118, you know, whats their new elevator pitch, the elevator pitch 2.0. Whether you're online or offline you need to convey who you are in a short amount of time so people want to pay attention to you.
[Aaron] So the elevator pitch in like maybe one hundred and forty characters or less?
[Jeff] Yeah, uh, that's a good way of being able to put it, the Twitter version basically, but you've got eight seconds to hook your audience, the average attention span of an adult a hundred and ten seconds to close me, eight seconds to hook me a hundred and ten seconds to close me because that's the average elevator ride in New York City.
[Aaron] A hundred and ten seconds to close you, I feel like that's more like forty seconds for you but for everybody else a hundred and ten seconds right.
[Jeff] It's a lot of fast, go go go.
[Aaron] Go, go go, so for all those unfortunate people who couldn't make it out to OMS what are the top two or three takeaways from your speech this morning that they would have gotten, uh, if they were here.
[Jeff] Well, I think it's in the sharing, about getting online you need to be on there, you need to be doing it whether you want to or not you need to do it. What's the return on ignoring? Not the return on investment, but the return on ignoring, if you aren't participating in these conversations you're out the door. I think that's the big thing. And quit going for the big viral videos, go for hearts and minds, build a community, that's the genuine part of building a brand.
[Aaron] I love it, return on ignoring. For all you CFO's and CTO's out there trying to get ROI, I like the I being replaced with ignoring.
[Jeff] That's right.
[Aaron] Perfect, perfect. So I know you've only been here for a few hours, but what's the coolest thing you've seen at OMS so far?
[Jeff] It's the sharing, it's the talking with people, finding what hey what did you do that worked? What did you do that was really bad? And being able to learn from that, that's the things I always take away from the kinds of meetings, is I know I'm in good company with lots of great people.
[Aaron] Well there you have it, straight from Jeff, thanks very much, and uh, appreciate it.
[Jeff] Thank You.
Great tips!
