The Air Conditioning lately has not been as cold as it was when the car was new. I remember when it was first bought, the A/C would hurt your feet it blew so cold. Idling in traffic would result in luke-warm air only slightly cooler than ambient. The only way to get cold air was driving down the highway on recirculating air (MAX AC)

A sort-of guide on doing this

Some things to note - the valve system, gauge and can setup may be different depending on which kit is bought.

The pressure changes while on regular ac and MAX AC (recirculatory). I also drained and added a few times to "flush" the system and get the new R134 with lubrication into the system.

Hold the can upside down and shake it (now shown due to not having 3 hands!)

DO NOT PLUG INTO THE HIGH PRESSURE SERVICE PORT

  • Let me guess you either a) paid someone a lot of money to do this when you could have done it yourself, b) overfilled the AC or c) had a failed AC system that couldn't be fixed by a cheap solution, correct?

Obviously, any attempt at doing so should be done at one's own risk.

Having done some research it looks like this is a completely safe method.

    have a nice day :)

  • at 1:11 the gauge shows red, is this because the ac is off? I am trying to recharge my system, when the compressor kicks on it goes into the green but when it's off it goes way up. I am hesitant to wreck my system with the possibility of over charging...thanks.

  • Sorry for the late response! Yes, thats what I was thinking when it was doing it to me. When it's on, pressure is normal throughout the system.

  • thank u!!! couldnt find the low pressure valve...this helped alot!

  • Glad I could help! Getting the wrong service port could end badly

  • @bigfatjohn120 Time for new lines. Expensive.

  • @dangerdavefreestyle can you help me i was trying to refill my a/cs freon but the gauge said it was full now what should i do with the container of freon that is still conected to the pump ? please help any one message me if you have the answer

  • my 01 ranger blows hot air, and there is a clicking sound from under the hood.

  • Wow talk about a shitty spot for the low pressure service port. The only brand of A/C refrigerant available up here in Canada is Red Tek, which gets dismal reviews. I'm going to have to order this brand or another online for my Maxima.

  • Always wear eye protection and gloves when recharging.

Always connect the fittings (and gauge set) before you start the car

    and turn on the a/c.

  • thank you!!

  • Can must stay right or you could damage the compressor. Living and learning.

  • I used a can the other day. At first the compressor didnt come on, then as i added more gas it started cycling before it stopped and stayed on as the pressure rose. I finished off the can now the air con which didnt come on before is nice and cold :-) I got the can on ebay.
