The OpenGL rewrite is complete. I've lost the HUD until I make it again, but I've gained some new features, including particle bursts, unlimited parallax layers, rotation, scaling, a true camera, and real 3D effects.
I am not using an Ortho projection, this is a real Frustum projection where sprites are rendered pixel perfect at Z=0 and scaled up and down nicely on other planes to give actual depth instead of a cheap, inflexible illusion. It even uses a top left coordinate system, so I didn't have to rewrite or adapt any game logic. I'm really happy with the way this is turning out.
Sorry there are no new, exciting test levels. I really need an artist to join me on this project. I know my art is terrible. I only make it good enough to work with the technical side.
What parts do you need an artist for specifically? Sounds like a fun, no-pressure project.
