This is a personal tribute to the wonderful James McGee, who was killed tragically on his bike by a motorist on the
8th of June 2011. James owned very little, but shared with us all a most wonderful gift, which was his ability to play the violin with a skill, passion, humour and imagination such as I have never heard before. Thank you James McGee. We all miss you so much.

  • Nice one guys!

  • RIP. We'd natter about stupid shit and discuss music and ethics and just have a smoke together and moan about stuff. I'll miss this free-spirited legendary guy.

  • Not just Peter & the Wolf - went to a gig of his - he saw us in the audience and slipped every classical violin concerto there is into his improvisation! A kind man you were, Jim! Shocked to hear you're not with us any more!

  • I had the pleasure of playing with James and sharing swing violin tricks with each other a few years ago. James had a cool trick of quoting the Peter and the Wolf theme in any tune. I started doing it, and think of him whenever I do, and mention him to anyone who remarks on it. So, your memory and your playful, sweet approach to fiddling live on, James.
