This is why you stretch your strings with your hand... not boil them.

Make fun of this trick all y'all want, but bassist Stanley Clark did this with his bass strings and so does Marcus Miller. And a slew of other players who especially play flatwounds. It doesn't make them any more rusty than the sweat from your hands would make them over time. It's not a very common trick and has been debated, but then again so has the whole don't take all your strings off at once or you'll warp your guitar neck arguement.

I haven't boiled new strings yet, but it does help revive the life of old ones. Grow up dumb assholes, no ones making you do it and its not like its costing you any money. If I get n extra decent push out of some old strings hey, saves me $9.
