Eastern LTTE leader Shankar killed by Sri Lanka STF

LTTE Eastern leader Shankar who spearheaded the battle in the East is killed in an Sri Lankan Special Task Force attack.(09/01/2008)

Giving his views, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nayakkara said the STF recognised a leader of the LTTE military wing at about 12.45 p.m. at Chowkade in Batticaloa. STF personnel returned fire when he attempted to open fire at them. Shankar was killed in this incident. A micro pistol, three magazines and a live hand grenade were found in his possession. He had been leading the claymore explosions. Meanwhile the advancing troops destroyed one LTTE bunker at 5.00 a.m. today at the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line. Three LTTE cadres were killed and two security forces personnel injured. The troops destroyed another three bunkers off the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line at 6.30 a.m.. Two LTTE cadres were killed and two injured in this encounter.
