Caroline Kennedy Endorses Cy Vance for DA

Cy Vance wins Caroline Kennedy's endorsement for Manhattan District Attorney.

"Some of you may be surprised to hear that when Cy called me, I told him that I had decided to take some time off from politics. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this is too important an election for anyone to sit out....Cy is the most experienced candidate in the race, and he has the support of those who best understand what is needed in our next DA. He has served as an outstanding prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer, commissioner for sentencing reform and community leader. But perhaps most importantly, through his long career, he has maintained the ability to combine pragmatism and idealism to achieve justice.

There are those who think idealism is overrated, they say is doesn't achieve results, while others think that the wheels of justice just grind down whoever happens to be caught in the system. We need a DA who believes that the criminal justice system reflects the aspirations of a democracy committed to the rule of law, and who goes to bed every night and wakes up every morning knowing that he has the responsibility of keeping our streets safe. Cy understands that pragmatism and idealism must be intertwined and his career has been spent proving that is possible. That's why I am here tonight, and why I am proud to support Cy Vance for District Attorney."
