@john9944 Of course I recall the jet steam sound, but it is great to finally know how it was made.............such technical complexity on those days. A little tid-bit. Your song Jet Stream can be found on a CD, that is kind of iconic and hard to find..............can't recall the exact name of the CD, but it is something like Garage Bands of the 60's from the Midwest, and your song is on that CD. You guys were a great band that I loved to listen to here locally.
@beaconmike Dear Mike I know that Bob Garvey and Chuck Comley have passed. But, I am unaware of Dondlinger's passing. Did you confuse him with Garvey? I can't believe that anyone would remember "Jet Stream." A little inside info you might find interesting. If you recall before the musical intro of Jet Stream there was a whooshing sound. That was created by putting a microphone in close proximity to a toilet and flushing it.
I agree with John - I always thought that I Don't Want To Cry was their best song too, but everyone has their favorites and that's what makes the world go' round and a happier place - the Flippers would come to Yankton, SD every once in a while and that drew a big crowd - even though a number of different bands would play there, everybody considered the Flips the cream of the crop and didn't want to miss them !
Go to the flippers website and you can order their greatest hits CD which contains all of the released songs by the Flippers, of course including I Don't Want To Cry and Harlem Shuffle.
For what it is worth to you, I used to love to hear your band, the Breakers here in Wichita. It was shocking for me to read that Chuck and Johnny have passed.
Long live 'Jet Stream'..........maybe you can get that posted here on Youtube.
I ,may have seen the Flippers as much as anyone. I love the Harlem Shuffle but I always regarded I Don't Want to Cry as their best tune. They also did a great version of the Bobby Hebb standard Sunny. This is the sound of my college years. I played in a Wichita band The Breakers that copied their instrumentation. I never had so much fun in a band than with all those horns. Could somebody post I Don't Want to Cry. I used to have the album. I think it was on Cameo records.
