Music lovers protest party
Headed by the Executive Director of the Plymouth Symphony and the former executive director of Michigan Opera Works, music lovers throughout the state of Michigan have announced plans to protest at a quiet xx party coming up Saturday, August 12, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.
Party organizer John Smith was visibly shaken when he heard the news, saying, "I don't understand. All I wanted to engage in some innovative participatory art. They're artists, don't they understand?"
Later, after he collected himself, he announced his decision. In a major concession to what he consider unfair treatment, he will allow party-goers to play the piano (with a 20 lbs sledgehammer), before burning it. He will also be selling these opportunties to the highest bidder, with proceeds going to charity, and to the accompaniment of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyrie".
The reaction from the music community was mixed.
"Do we get to draw pictures of Ozzie Ozborne on the keys before banging away?" one asked.
Others drew back in horror.
It is not known at this time whether the music community will be able to convince city hall to withdraw the bonfire permit. Mayor Sheldon was quoted as saying "That's not my department" before disappearing into an elevator shaft.
When asked if he was disappointed by the low number of RSVPs, Smith responded, "Nah, they'll be able to enjoy the fireball from home." His neighbors are preparing to flee up North as the day approaches, which he thinks is a good idea, since less traffic will allow the fire trucks and ambulances better access.
"Why didn't I play it?"
1. This piano, which was played with sledgehammers and then immolated (see "Fire Marshal Fails to Censor Art" had been left outdoors for quite some time. It was my not-very-good piano. I had a piano expert come and tune my "good" piano (the one inside the house), and he told me that if I put another dollar into it he'd break my fingers. However, that one still plays (this party was about 7 years ago).
2. Piano-smashing is *art*!!!!! (at least by today's standards)
