In a recent update from YouTube, they're adding a feature that lets you create a link between your YouTube channel and your website's domain. They say that making this connection will greatly improve your videos' rankings SEO in search, so they highly recommend that everyone take advantage of this new feature. Unfortunately, no one seems to know how to actually find the setting for this feature!

They also added the ability to set certian defaults for each of your new uploads so that your appropriate metadata automatically includes some common description text, tags, category, and other settings that are common across all your videos.

Other updates include an option to give the Nielsen rating group access to your YouTube data, YouTube joining Pinterest, and what's going on behind the scenes at YouTube when a video's view count freezes at 301 views.

QUESTION: How do tablet viewers change your videos and engagement?

I cannot find anything in IRBD ... but I can say ... what's wrong with Youtube ?? The product bulletin looks like a child's assignment. No rss, bad quality design, what a shame ... and of course no links to get more info ... Really bad for the biggest video site in the world

Well, they're using Google Sites for it, which is a pretty limited product to begin with. Wish they would just include the updates in a weekly blog post on one of their existing blogs instead of creating a new site for it.

Hey Tim~ Great content! Looking forward to learning more about linking the web domain to your channel. I did some poking around regarding IRDB but I haven't found anything that seems to be relevant yet. I'll keep an eye out though.

Yeah, so weird that YouTube would do this. Maybe they just made something up randomly to see how many people would pull their hair out. *shrugs*

I wish I could make partner. I would like to have a scheduled release of my shows. It is impossible with the craziness that is my life. My new filmmaking channel is going to be much more main stream. I should be able to get there faster with it.

Cool man. Which ever channel you go with, just focus on having fun with it more than trying to become a partner. The extra perks of being a full partner are cool, but ultimately won't mean much if you no longer enjoy what you're doing, ya know?

What is the IRBD situation and the linking ability of the YouTube channel to the domains. Its amazing, I don't want Nielsen to access my data or information. The Nielsen Group is going from TV to online information and is a choke. It's another situation where we are losing our privacy more and more in the USA. Sooo sad! Thanks, David A. Grande

If your videos get viewed on mobile devises a lot i would definitely make sure you put all the links and stuff you would normally put in annotations in the description.

Tim - another great topic. Would love to know when youtube shares the IRBD secret. Sorry to hear you moved from MN., Just moved back after living on a sailboat in the Caribbean for 8 years. What was I thinking??

Although Mobile device usage is starting to outrank Desktops, I think its important we look at OUR own analytics to see how OUR viewers are consuming. If they are viewing via mobile devices we should look at creating content that addresses:

    - Functionality & Interaction (no annotations within youtube, no CTA overlays on external players)

    - Engagement (Would you say viewers are less or more engaged on mobile devices?)

    - Location & Convenience (Mobile views could be on the bus, in the mall etc...)

Good advice, I love filmmaking and the online community. I am so excited about all the new shows and content. In the 80's I opened a photo studio, I was working like a dog and lost the creativity that I loved about photography. Since then I have focused on doing the art that I love and not on money or things that do not satisfy my internal needs.
