In this Diversity TV commentary, Troy looks back at the history of African-American stereotypes found in films from the 30's, 40's & 50's. He compares those films to current Hollywood movies, specifically Tropic Thunder, where Robert Downey Jr. is dressed as a black man.

Thanks for watching!

  • i understand where you are coming from but did you even watch the movie? The whole idea of the movie was that they were "satirizing" the time in which whites dressed in black face. Even Brandon T. Jackson's character in the movie told Robert Downey Jr's in the movie many times that Robert is not black.Jackson complains that they gave the role of a black man to Robert who isn't black and Later on Robert's character apologizes. Jackson says " look man you're australian, be australian".

  • What about "Whiteface"?

    Black people playing white people.

Watch White Chicks, two black people play white women played the roles of white women. If you need a white woman hire a white woman I say.

    [I'm kidding]

  • WATCH THE FUCKING MOVIE BEFORE YOU GO OFF SPEAKING ABOUT WHAT IT DID OR TRIED TO DO! I'M SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE SPEAKING ON MOVIES, VIDEOGAMES, ALBUMS, BOOKS THAT THEY THEMSELVES HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN/PLAYED/HEARD/READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Watch the movie, you'll understand why he had to look the way he did. He wasn't supposed to be a real African American, but a white man playing an African American.

  • oh yeah, i forgot to say this but also, ur a fag and have horrible public speaking skills

  • black people deserve to be portrayed that way. after all, if they're so smart or even equal, then why dont they rise up against their white rulers?

  • Robert Downey Jr. played a white guy.

  • By 'Our History' I assume you mean black history. You know , a normal person could look at that film and say

' Hay look , he's a parody of other black characters from other war movie's , like Apocalypse Now and Platoon'

Its getting to the point where I can turn around and say quite confidently , that wow man , Troy your incredibly racist.

  • This guy obviously just likes to hear himself talk.

  • even Brandon T said it was just good acting on Downey's part. Besides the character was Australian hired to play a black guy.

  • This argument embarrasses me.
