The 91 Stars will go down as maybe the greatest Cinderella story in NHL history. They took out the #1 team in the league in the first round, the #2 team in the second, the defending Cup champions in the semi's and damn near went the distance with Mario in the finals. For a team ranked 19th in the league going into the playoffs, this was nothing short of incredible.
@chrisuncleahmad Huh? Within the Norris, they beat the league's best two teams! If anything they were unlucky they were in that division. If they played in the inferior Wales they might've had an easier road to the finals.
@zyxavious He was my favorite North Star. I asked him for his autograph as a kid once--it was like looking up to a giant! He was so cool. I still have the autograph. Bring back the good ol' days. God I miss them...
What a great run the North Stars had that year. Finished 16th with only 68 points and a 27-39-14 record but upset Chicago (106 pts), St.Louis (105 pts), Edmonton (reigning champs) and gave Pittsburgh a go at it (except for game 6).

Loved Bobby Smith. He was the first hockey player I loved to watch.

I really wanted to play like Bobby. But he was 6-4 with a Mario-like reach and I'm 5-10 with aligator arms!

I hated those 1991 North Stars so much.
They were fortunate they played in the divisional playoff era.
If they had won a Cup that year, it would have been a disgrace!
