    I'm not sure where this occurred and I'm confident it probably want the US but I'm sure some of the people commenting about what it's for are from the US. In the US federal income tax is used to pay off the interest acquired by the loans the fed gives the country. Everything from roads to sewers and the rest of the infrastructure have it's own tax that's really unavoidable. Pay for water? Sewer tax is included, pay for gas? Road tax is included and so on.
