I was close in guessing it was possibly a Lunar Moth, when instead it was a kin to it, that has the wings that resemble tree bark etc.
No, not related to Luna, but it is a sphinx moth. Orange, oblique abdominal spots. Yours is a tobacco worm, Manduca sexta.
