This clip was filmed on April 17, 2010, when Strictly Street Salsa (based in Houston, Texas) performed using the song "Unidad" at the 2010 Houston International Festival. "Unidad" means unity, and the song inspired this Casino Rueda routine.
The song "Unidad" was written by Julian Silva and performed by the group La Excelencia, which is based in New York. By coincidence, La Excelencia also performed at this year's Houston International Festival, but on a different weekend. We *highly* recommend the album "Mi Tumbao Social," from which this song came. More information about the band can be found here:

During the routine, the dancers perform a group lift and use many moves that require holding hands, precise timing, and working together. The song lyrics speak of the strength that Latin people can have when united together. That theme is also reflected by the dancers' soccer (football) jerseys, displaying the names of different countries. This was only the second date when we had performed the routine in public, and we were honored to be able to show it on Center Stage of the Festival. The "Rueda de Casino" format of Salsa dancing was primarily developed out of Cuba and Miami.
The dancers in this routine (including various teachers and instructors from Strictly Street Salsa) are:
Amy Price
Cheryl Blanchard
Sandi Morales
Sujita Sukumaran
Michael Whitmire
Raul Garcia
Richard Sharon
Sergio Garcia
The choreography was created by Michael Whitmire, who was also the "caller" during the actual performance.
