The Station Agent (2003) - Island in the Sun

"The Station Agent" is a little gem that unfortunately way too many people have never even heard of.
It's a quiet movie about three people with a lot of baggage that slowly develop a friendship that might look odd from the outside but really isn't which you realize once you take a closer look.

First, there's Fin - a misanthrope with a passion for trains who moves into a little inactive train depot in the middle of nowhere and wants nothing but to be left alone.
Then, there's Olivia - dealing with her own past, good at painting, and absolutely disastrous behind the wheel.
And finally, there's Joe - a kind-hearted guy who parks his hot dog stand right in front of Fin's new home, determined to form a friendship with him...

There are so many movies out there that entertain people (which is a good thing), but sadly so few that actually *stick* and make you think...

Nice little movie. Saw it on TV today for the first time. Good character development. Just goes to show how very different people, can eventually become caring friends. Even with the ton of baggage and problems these characters seem to have. The onlyy thing I didn't like was it seemed the two guys always had a cigarette in thier mouth. . .

I just got to see the movie. It was filmed in the town I live in. A lady lent it to me, cause I like trains and it was from my town. Good movie, but not a lot of trains.

the Railroad Station scenes were shot in Newfoundland new Jersey...the train store scenes were shot in Rockaway New Jersey...the Bridge scene where they are eating jerky...was filmed just off of rt 46 in Knowlton Twp New Jersey...great movie
