Here I thought I'd share a bit of research I did over the past few days. Are incandescents better because they don't contain mercury? NO.
We can reduce mercury pollution from CFLs to zero by taking two steps: 1) use clean sources of power, 2) recycle the bulbs after they blow.
Think about it.
@iluvdankitydank
The light quality depends on the brand and type. I challenged my friends to tell the difference between a good warm-colored CFL and an incandescent bulb. They couldn't. And you can buy incandescent-shaped CFL's for your decorative fixtures.

What if you break the CFL in your house, how many mg are released into the air in your enclosed house. Read precations re: cleaning up broken CFL bulbs.

In a worse case scenario you need to add the 2.6mg of Mercury released into air plus the 4mg of Mercury already in the CFL if its not recycled to get a total of 6.6mg of total Mercury released into the environment. You're right, American's can't do math, hehehe - nevertheless, compare to 11.8mg for the incandescent it is still relatively lower. You need to quote where you get the data in order for this calculation to be more reliable.

@SonicTheEggNog yes and when they break they break in your house not in some industrial setting where they have toxic spill response teams, we must see the difference i would rather the poisons be kept in an industrial setting then my house.. and you are correct its all a lie ..this is like depleted uranium munitions they want us dead so they poison our environment...fuck this guys math ..and let us forget sodium fluoride more industrial waste they pump into our water supply ..its all a lie

The problem is THEY BREAK ALL THE TIME. They NEVER last 10,000 hours. LEDs are the way to go.

Global warming isn't made made, It's just another lie. They use it as an excuse for many things including to make mercury compulsory in our home.. People don't read the instruction on the package and it will end up in the bin and eventually in the nature and our drinking water. The agenda who has introduced this madness knows this. Don't for a second thinks that the agenda who controls this world come up with these things for our own good.

AGW deniers are simply confusing all the parasite bullshit surrounding AGW with the model itself being complete bullshit, especially with clowns like Gore promoting it. People feel that if they accept AGW, then they also must embrace shitty CFL's and expensive, wasteful hybrid cars and toilets that don't flush shit and reeking urinals that don't flush at all and dishwashers that don't clean and freezing to death in their own living rooms, etc. People don't see the logic in paying more for less

People don't use CFL's because they suck. The light quality is horrible, they look stupid especially in decorative fixtures, and they certainly don't last 10,000 hours. And even if they last half as long as they are supposed to (which they don't) your math is screwed. That's not even counting the pollution and coal powered energy used to make these pieces of shit.
