This visualiser tries to look like animated ink on cloth, or maybe batik - hence the name. I've deliberately kept the saturation low, because otherwise it can look rather 8-bit. Unlike black backgrounds where transparency is key, here the secret is to have white particles to clear the screen! The music is inspired by the 1970s modular synthesizer groups, and so uses all the 120 bpm, 4/4, 8 or 16 step sequences, key of C, etc. cliches you can think of, although some of the instrumental sounds used are a little too modern and sampled to be completely authentic.

Music visualisation created in Quartz Composer. Music created in Ableton Live. All visuals and music created entirely by Martin Russ in April 2010.

  • @Raph There is no need to transpose the tempo - the QC software responds to the audio input (mic or line) in real-time.

  • How did you transpose the BPM in QC? Did the audio input was taken with the external micro or by AIC?
