In 2007, The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) in Ithaca, NY created a program called Talking Circles on Race and Racism in order to bring racially & ethnically diverse people together to have an honest and open dialogue on race.
Talking Circles are facilitated dialogues that provide participants with an opportunity for self-reflection, sharing experiences, and influencing each others perspectives and attitudes.
MRC Director Audrey Cooper worked closely with Laura Branca and Kirby Edmonds of Training for Change Associates to develop what has become an integral part of a community-wide dialogue on race and racism.
To date, more than 300 racially and ethnically diverse people have participated in a Talking Circle. We interviewed a few of those people willing to share some of their experiences.
