I just finished learning this song, and figure I should do a quick cover video of it, with a few mistakes here and there, the solo is of course mostly improvised and loosely based on the original.

The song is Divinations by Mastodon. The backing track is from a powertab midi file (not mine).

The guitar is an Ibanez AM77T and I'm recording trough a Digitech RP250 (same as the rest of my videos)

I used laptop webcam for the video hance the low quality.

  • Why didnt you just use the instrumental divinations song to play along with? just a suggestion even though midi track sounds good with you playing with it

  • @TheCorruptionlives What instrumental divinations song?

if there is an instrumental version of divinations I've never heard of it, and it will probably only be useful to me if there are no guitars in it rather than no vocals, that's the whole point of having a backing track.

  • @mrfootinmouth Yeah on Crack the Skye "Royal edition" they released the whole album regular but also all the songs instrumentally as well. Just put Mastodon Divinations instrumental if you want to check it out.

  • @TheCorruptionlives Ok thanks, I just checked it out and I did find the instrumentals.

However they are still useless to me since they have the guitars on them, but at the very least they are usefull to hear the guitars more clearly when learning the songs.

But like I said the whole point of making a cover is to play the guitars myself along to the drums, bass and vocals if possible, but no guitars

  • Dude incredible cover, such a badass song. Hey where did you find a tab for the end of the chorus part, the sliding up the neck part? Thats the only part of this song i still can't seem to figure out.

  • @KJB2010 Thanks, I probably got it from the same tab everyone else has already, I honestly can't remember all I recall is learning the positions and then just playing around with them until it sounded right.

the main chords are kinda like this, just copy and paste them into notepad

    -0-0-0---0--0--0-

    -1-3-7--13-15-19-

    -2-4-8--14-16-20-

    -4-6-x--16-18--x-

    -x-x-x---x--x--x-

    -x-x-x---x--x--x-

  • @BWPride95 Thanks, the banjo bit in the begining is just part of the backing midi track along with the drums and bass, I just played the guitar on top of it of course.
