MaximsNewsNetwork: 11 November 2009 - UNTV: Fresh talks are underway in Geneva between Russia and Georgia to discuss the issues between the two countries.

The 8th round of the talks between Russia and Georgia have been taking place in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations, The European Union and the OSCE.




The talks aimed at restoring stability in the region following the conflict between the two countries in August last year. All participants met in two parallel working groups to discuss security and stability in the region and humanitarian matters. The three co- chairs of the meeting said the discussions had proceeded well. The next round of the meeting will be held on 28th January 2010.

The Co-Chairs of the Geneva discussions expressed concerns about a number of recent detentions. There have been a number of brief detentions of Georgians in recent weeks, mainly in rebel South Ossetia -- the focus of last year's five-day war between Georgia and Russia. South Ossetian authorities are holding four Georgian teenagers arrested last week in the breakaway capital Tskhinvali and accused of carrying grenades and other explosive material.

Mr. Morel, making a few general observations of his own, said the first dynamics of the Geneva Discussions which were established over the past year were continuing to develop and grow. They were moving forward, step by step, subject by subject, bottom up. The upward curve was quite clear and the process was gradually moving forward.
