To clarify I didn't know what a theodolite was yesterday

are theodolites still useful? i picked a pentax th-20d from a garage sale because it had lots of knobs and shiny things

Setting up the Theodolite took you about 5 minutes. In tomorrow's test, I'll be asked to set it up exactly over a nail only in 3 minutes !! but for me, if I'm forced to use a Theodolite, the easiest way to set it up is by only using the legs of the tripod to set the theodolite over the point and to level it, this seems much easier than using the leveling screws ....

I prefer total station, with the théodolite we lost many time

@001muffdiver also, when using a total station you don't need to worry about other calculations. That's a waste of time and a lot of headache.

You can learn the basics on a total station too. It's a lot easier, and nobody uses theodolites on sites anymore.

Measuring an area with a total station takes a few minutes. With a theodolite..... even days.
