  • The '59 Welk Orchestra was quite fabulous. Six clarinets playing those perfect sixteenth notes..notice how the eight brass men coupled into microphone pairs when muted to get that perfect blend..like the true studio players they were..

    Obviously a Quadling chart characterize by the meaty muted brass and clarinets. What a trombone section in those days.

    The Welk congregation at its muscial apex. Live, too.

  • Agree 100% with the above post...the Welk band was never better than in the 1959-61 era. Lou Quadling loved those low-key shuffle rhythms. And here we have the augmented string section, stll with Kesner, and the best Welk reed section of all time: Page, Amadeo, Klein, Dumont, Bonnee and Dick Dale. THREE CHEERS!
