I went from frail to fat over the winter.My favorite part was that i ate a lot of food & it was delicious.I've since lost about 25 of it, i'll bulk smarter next winter.
Advice about bulking for fellow "hard gainers".
-Eat more than you've ever eaten before, don't concern yourself with BMI calculators and dividing your calories up by carb, protein, fat intake.This is what you need to do.Say your intake now is roughly 2000-2500 calories, take a week or two and prepare your body to take in all the food you'll soon be eating.Add a meal between your breakfast and lunch, then again the next week between your lunch and dinner.Midnight snacking is a huge plus...but add that about a month into your journey.By the end of my bulking i estimate i was taking in no less than 5000-6000 per day.Yes it's expensive, yes you'll gain fat, but you can eat as clean as you want you're slowing your metabolism down to a crawl in order for the calories you don't burn killing yourself in the gym to soak in and repair your body.
-LIFT HEAVY.I think it took me 3 month to find a routine that best suit me and i found that powerlifting best suited me.Bench.Deadlift.Squat(in my case my knee is fucked from a car accident so i leg pressed).In reps as follows.(warmup,10, 8, 6, then i'd load up and press myself for 1-3 reps of as heavy as i could handle.Three day split and work in your corresponding muscles (example for back day:bent over rows and barbell curl).KEEP IT SIMPLE AND HEAVY.If you leave the gym feeling faint you've done your job.
-IT IS OK TO USE GLOVES/STRAPS/BELTS!
Don't let anyone tell you that it can weaken your grip or keep your forearms from developing/weaken your back.I used them and gained just the same (although now that i am strong enough i do not use straps, never used glove's, belt if i really need it).Anything that helps you keep proper form and lift the load is ok, just make sure to do away with them as you develop.
-I've done too much research and found that for myself these things worked.Protein in the form of an animal is the absolute best protein you can intake, if you're a veg head try lentil beans, i live off them now that im cutting and they work just fine.Just keep the white bread, rice, sugary snacks to about .01% of your diet.Eat like crap on your cheat day, that's why it's your cheat day.
