Fact: Robbie wrote the songs.
There is no reason to believe that The Band was any different from any of their contemporaries in their songwriting credits. Beatle songs are usually credited to Lennon-Mccartney, not Lennon-Mccartney-Harrison-Star
r. Ditto with the Stones, and pretty much everyone else. To everyone except Levon Helm, playing on a song does not mean you wrote it. On Richard's three solo credits on Big Pink, he did not share any credit...he was playing by the same rules too.

I read somewhere (maybe on the 4 disc cd set) that The Night They Drove Old Dixie down had more added to the song, but listening to the un-edited version as it came from the concert the song as found in the movie and on the 2 disc set is complete.

@anthonythirteen This version is as it was recorded directly from the mixing board at the concert. From what I understand they had to do a lot of work to the songs to make them more suitable. I've listened to the whole concert as it came from the mixing board due to someone posting a recording of it online and I could tell a lot of the songs needed work in order to make the movie a success and in order for the album to sell.

From what I understand this is as it came from the mixing board at the concert. I actually have the full concert as it was recorded directly from the mixing board. I'm not sure how it became available. I'm not gonna say how I got it for obvious reasons.

Thanks for Sharing these Treasures!

This is one of the saddest things I have ever heard. Richard is my absolute favorite member of the Band. I love him! In the studio recording you can hear a farmers desperation, because his farm failed. In this recording, that desperation is replaced by the desperation of a man trying to hit the notes that he no longer can. Imagine how different his life would have turned out if he'd stayed away that awful substance. RIP. In our hearts forever.

it sounds better on the extra 4 CD set

@quickhick Was there a problem with his mic as well? Or not facing it so sounds in the distance? I agree that RM looks awful on the film - whatever the Robbie haters say, clearly only RR & Levon were really still firing on all cylinders by 1976.

For some reason this isn't working but think that's just my computer. Will try again later.
Was wondering though, does anyone know where I can see any footage of the performances that didn't make it to the movie. Know they're all on the CD which I'm gonna have to get but would love to see more footage. Watched TLW about 50 times and always left feeling like I want more.
Thank you for posting.

It is the reason it was not included

Amazing that this was played betweeen "Ophelia" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Like "Georgia on My Mind", Richard sings it well despite his voice sounding bad and the horn section really shines.
