  • Remove the music. It's too loud and interferes with control's audio transmissions. Still an excellent clip.

  • The look of horror on the control staff is chilling, it must have been like walking down the street and suddenly seeing a fatal car accident. If I recall correctly the guy with the mustache was watching the telemetry (live computer data connection) with the shuttle when all the links abruptly went dead, which is what provoked him to look up at the video feed.

  • @joesmoe71 That guy is Richard Covey, an astronaut himself. His role that day was Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM). He was the pilot on STS-26, the first flight after Challenger 51-L.
