AT Rifles: The End of the Quasi-Armored Wheeled Truck on the Non-Linear Battlefield (NLB)

Commander Ian Fleming & Ubersexy SOE Agent Krystyna Skarbek Steal a Top-Secret Polish AT Rifle

Strykers, Humvees and MRAP trucks cannot be adequately armored as the threat increases.

http://www.combatreform.org/TRANSFORMATIONUNDERFIRE/index.htm

Their flimsy rubber tires and suspensions are already maxed-out. They are all fatally road-bound where ever increasing size land mines await them. KE guns shooting small HE shells at high velocities in direct-fire mode are now available. Here's a man-portable, kinetic energy (KE) 20mm rapid-fire cannon for $ sale $ by South Africa to anyone that will incinerate these wheeled trucks.

http://www.combatreform.org/WHEELSVSTRACKS/index.htm

Its in essence a lighter, single-shot-at-a-time version of the larger autocannon like the ASP-30mm we propose be fitted to M113 Gavins--

--but easier to dismount and even carry on the back or on a cart/bike etc.

http://www.combatreform.org/militaryvehicles.htm

In contrast, M113 Gavin light tanks/APCs can be fitted with very heavy extra armor-- 28% more so than any wheeled truck--that can withstand 20mm, 30mm and 40mm autocannon shells (rim-less for rapid-fire).

The wheeled truck is obsolete on the NLB and its high time we scrap them and go to all-tracked light, medium and heavy tank forces as Hobart and Guderian advocated all along.

ALL units on the non-linear battlefield must be capable of NON-linear movement...linear movement on roads/trails/streets by wheeled trucks is suicidal in the face of high explosive bombs. Wheeled trucks are truly obsolete on the NLB.

  • When I was 11 My stepfather let me shoot his .50 cal anti tank rifle. It was a relic from ww1 and you had to lay prone to fire it. The magazine was on top with bolt operation. It kicked like a mule and I think I lost a 1\2 inch off my hight. Can anyone tell me the name of that weapon, I lost touch of him years ago.

  • Boy's Anti-Tank Rifle. You are a blessed man to have had a chance to fire one!

    watch?v=rODm7HF5lFU

  • I get pissed off humping my barret .50 through the bush

  • Use an all-terrain, all-purpose cart/sled (ATACS) or a folding mountain bike to be more mobile when away from your "mother" motor-driven vehicle like a M113 Gavin.

  • One tactic I can see in deploying this is the 2 man team infiltrate the area around the base and locate targets then call in an attack aircraft to strafe the area with canon fire. The aircraft distracts observers who don't realize the shots from the high ground.

When commanders see their expensive equipment full of 20mm holes they assume the plane did it while the sniper team make a discreet exit.

Of course this assumes the snipers can get even a micro-lite with taped on shotgun.

  • EXCELLENT tactical insight and suggestion. You are war-gaming from the enemy's point of view.

  • @derbbus

Hehe, how about a good old bazooka?

  • Chage the scoope and it the halo rifle

  • Whats best for vermin control, 14.5mm or 20mm?

  • from WW1 it can only be the German "Tankgewehr" in 13mm.

  • Seems great for extended perimiter defence. Like defending an airfield perhaps. Wouldnt like to carry the fucker around though.

  • it seems like a really good weapon, but I can't see its size/weight being practical on the battlefield, you probably need a two-man team to move it

  • The WW1 Bouys At fired a 20mm round in service. There were .50 and .55 training round versions but the service weopon was a 20mm. Hope this helps.

  • had no idea 14.5mm was that stronger

  • So you can carry it out to the "hide" and slap it together without having to zero it in again?

Can it really justify the great weight and bulk? Or is this taking the concept of the "anti-materiel" rifle just a bit too far?

  • IT kicks up so many leave dirt and dust i could see it a mile away but still cool 3-5
