Who played the electric solo on this? It sounded SO awesome...Is this the only version that Roy did that had such an arrangement? If not, please lead me to it! I love that sound!

The guitarist in question would be Jackie Phelps. If you look at the Acuff video I have on here of Wabash Cannonball (around the time frame of 2:25), you will see him and here his solo on that song! :-)

You are more than welcome mbelle! :-) I took it off YouTube a few months ago...then I was asked to put it back on here because it meant so much to someone.
Speaking of grandfathers (even though you cant see him that well), my grandfather is playing with Acuff on this clip. He can be seen standing behind Oswald (around 2:25)
Take care!!

There needs to be more videos of Mr. Roy Acuff put on youtube ! He was excellent performing even in his last years until his death at 89, in 1992.

my grandpa and myself sang this countless times . He gave up his career as a country singer when he was already singing with his brother The Barnhart Brothers. because he loved the lady that is my grandmother now and he loved her. He was already signed with a major label and turned it all down for love and his convictions which to me is more than any in the the last two decades have had the courage to do and When Thomas Lynn Barnhart is gone so will be a portion of true American history

I got turned off from church as a teenager because of a pastor we had by the name of Rozell. But if for some reason Roy Acuff came back and I ran into him, and he said, "are we going to see you in church on Sunday boy?" Even though I'm now in my 40's I think my response would probably be, "yes sir Mr. Acuff...I'll be there."
