Oakland, California is the birthplace to more NBA basketball stars than any other city in the country. But there is a streetball legend who rises above them all....

Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell has been called one of the best basketball players never to make it to the NBA, and can name superstar NBA players (and fellow Oaklanders) Jason Kidd, Gary Patyon, Brian Shaw among his closest friends. But while these b-ball legends say that he was better than all of them, Hook wound up incarcerated for five years, lelft to watch his childhood friends skyrocket to stardom with multi-million dollar salaries. His poignant tale of a life gone wrong is told in HOOKED.

  • SweetJRT, thanks for sharing this, much appreciated.

I sincerely feel for Hook. A product of his community. This just reaffirms that we got to worry about OUR kids before we worry about the rest of the world.

We failed Hook and all the countless people like him.

  • You are welcome. Hook is a product of his community, but he also needs to be held accountable for what he did. People come out of the same projects as him and have made something of their lives. Everyone makes their own choices.

  • i wanna ball wit hoops...n im in oakland every week...wats da deal?

  • hit up Mosswood in North O cats stay hoopin up there

  • Best video I have seen on YouTube. Thanks for the upload. This is so sad to me. If it's true that he is back on drugs, please, please, someone in the Oakland area reach out to him. I know his mistakes are numerous, but it is how we serve others that matter most. Pray for Hook and those that he surrounds himself with. Someone please try and track him down... God Bless Hook.

  • I wish reaching out to Hook was that easy. I know a lot of people that are friends with Hook and that grew up with him, but sometimes the power of drugs is just to strong. It's between Hook and God now nobody else can reel him in.

  • Thanks for uploading this man. It was great to watch.

  • Thumbs up if you cryed!

  • OLIVER NORTH / PRESIDENT REAGAN BROUGHT TONS OF COCAIN INTO THE COUNTRY, ........ WHERE DO U THINK THOSE DRUGS WOUND UP?

  • @SweetJRT true but the drugs were a power he just messed with and didn't UNDERSTAND the real consequences of those drugs like cocaine and heroin. They are PURE evil, especially heroin because it becomes a REAL NEED. like water almost, or the air you breathe,

  • @Smokegerbs21 God help those ...who help themself first .....no one can help you if you don't chose to help yourself first

  • @melv4 wow man .... it must have been a real shock after you seen this movie .... hah

  • @melv4 so he is still clean! That's great!

  • Its crazy because Hook was at my basketball game on Sunday June 19, 2011.. and I didnt even know who he was. He was helping me warm up at half time and trying to help improve my jumpshot. He's a good guy, I wouldve never thought he had been through the obstacles he has been through.. Hes a great person.

  • i dare someone to count the amount of times they say "you know" in this whole doco

  • realist shit ever son, theres hella homies out there that really can hoop but be on that shit

  • realist shit ever son, theres hella homies out there that really can hoop but be on that shit

  • nigga u aint lyin, a couple in every hood, maybe they never went to jail, maybe they got injured or had a shorty, but its alot of niggas that aint make to the mlb nfl nba shit soccer jus because of major setbacks that should of been minor

  • its a hook in every hood

  • god this god that god aint gon help for shit! he needed help from his closes peers and they ignored him!

  • compelling story, great production!

  • This shit is so sad if he back on that stuff. These fucking drugs have ruined so many in our community and family. In the end someone on drugs has to make that change for themselves and no matter how much they family and friends love them it wont make a difference to they are ready to make that change.

  • What a Shame. So much talent forgotten , All by Drugs.

Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell , He could have been the greatest point guard in the NBA.

    God Bless You Hook.

  • nate robinson is 5'9'' and he can dunk so i guess thats what hook could have been oh well he has only himself to blame for being in prison

  • wow its crazy how someone with so much talent can fall through the cracks

  • Great movie.....

  • GOOD BLESS YOU ''HOOK''!!!!!!!

  • as sad as this is this is such a motivation to not end up like him. if someone wants a motivational tool this is it.

  • same thing happened to booger smith from new york. they say booger was the best player to never make the league and it was cause of drugs he aint make it. they made a movie bout him to its called soul in the hole check it out
