Top Gear Effects and Filters - Volvo V50

A simple test to find out how easy or hard it is to re-create the effects and filters like the ones often used in Top Gear (BBC).

In this shot I did by importing two Photoshop layers into Premiere. Afterwards the Three-way Color correction was applied for the 'epic-colouring', A Levels-adjustment was set into effect, this creates a higher contrast.

I also played around a bit with Time Remapping, which works really well. If you then add in some sound effects and dramatic music... it's nearly the real thing ;-)

@mazinais31 Absolutely true - that in combination with their visual/art director and you're in for epic shots. At least mostly, they seem to be 'lacking' their epicness in the last series.

Alas - all we can do is learn how to do it with minimal staff and effort - ;-)

Top Gear use a range of filters on the cameras themselves using a Matte Box - some of the colouring is done during editing, but the majority is done optically - saves time (this is what I have heard).

@MrJonnyJones Update: I doesn't really save that much time anymore. With current computer systems it can be done in post in very little time. There are a plethora of plugins which can do these coloring effects with the click of a button - like i.e. Red Giant's Magic Bullet QuickLooks
