Robert jams with himself on cajon, synthesizer (Yamaha DX-7), acoustic guitar, bass, and electric guitar, using the Boss RC-50 Loop Station.
Everything you hear was recorded live and in one take, but to make the video more interesting, I re-played some parts to get more film footage.

  • I play my guitar out if this and its great!! My question is that my bass is plugged into its own amp but I can still hear it out of my guitar amp too? I dont want to damage the speakers. I have the pedal (rc 50) in my FX loop.... and guitar in front of amp. Bass is plugged directly in the amp then to "instrument" in the pedal into the back of the bass amp.Is this correct?

  • @Boogiethrash Hi. I'd take advantage of the stereo nature of the pedal: plug gtr into left in, bass into right in, go from left out to gtr amp, right out to bass amp. That will keep your signals separate.

  • @DirtyCs Good tip, thanks! Sorry the order of comments and replied sometimes gets mixed up on here.

  • amazing

  • @DirtyCs Thanks for your advice; I'll try that. What I do to get so many instruments running is something like this: the cajon mic goes into the mic input, and I set the unit's output to 'SUB', and the SUB output goes to a powered monitor. I record the cajon to phrase 1, which is set to SUB out. Then I move to patch 2 to add some guitar. Now, the guitar is going into the LEFT input and the LEFT output goes to a guitar amp. (Running out of characters - see next message.)

  • @RobertBrayMusic the downside to doing that though does mean you loose what you had previously just looped, but i do actually have a question mate not just useless advice, was wondering how you are plugging so many instruments into it? as i'm thinking of buying a keyboard but cant work out how to run that and my guitar at the same time?

  • @RobertBrayMusic make sure none of your patches are accidently set to single shot instead of loop, as i now mostly only ever use the single function to record different parts onto each pedal, you do have to click again to overdub just like in the multi set up but initial recording is imediate without missing a beat. Recording shouldnt stop. This pedals amazing you can even switch between multi and single functions by going into a new patch where you've previously saved your required setting.

  • Very nice demonstration, thanks. I am undecided between the 20xl and the 50...

  • @dizzack They get bored and walk out.

I have streamlined it since making this video and now I play and sing whole songs with the looper, starting with just guitar and voice, so there's no real delay at the beginning. I bring in a new sound with each verse, do a solo on lap steel or something for verse 3, then take it all out for the last sung verse and kick it all back in for a big ending.

  • Assuming you play out live, how the your audience respond to the time it takes you to build your complex patterns.
